Community
Working together with the local (and not so local) community to make a better place for the community, our employees and our guests.
Typography is the art and technique
Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable and appealing when displayed. The arrangement of type involves selecting typefaces, point size, line length, line-spacing (leading), letter-spacing (tracking), and adjusting the space within letters pairs (kerning).
Supporting our Local School
- Swimming Facilities
Not only an important life skill, a good form of exercise, but also pretty fun, we feel that everyone should be given the opportunity to learn to swim. Each Thursday, during term time, we close our pool and the children from Langdale Primary School visit to take part in swimming lessons.
Provided with lifeguards, the children are able to learn and enjoy swimming in a safe environment.
- Cycle Safety Course for Pupils
Since our home is one of the biggest playground’s for cyclists, with unlimited routes offering breathtaking views, we feel that everyone should be able to enjoy it. Actively encouraging pupils of Langdale Primary School to get involved, we encourage students to complete their Cyclewise training on site, allowing the children to not only learn how to ride a bike in a safe environment, but get out and explore the Lake District.
- New Sports Kit and Equipment
Do you remember that feeling of a pulling on your brand-new sports kit? Fresh, clean (well, usually not for long) and still with the tags on? Providing new sport kit to the children at Langdale Primary School allows us to let the children experience it.
Along with providing kit, we also provided new sports equipment, allowing the children to get the most from their PE lessons.
- Computer Equipment
Technology is now an integrated part of our daily lives within society, enabling humankind to access resources like no other. With a range of learning technology now available, it is important that it is accessible within education.
Therefore, we decided to donate computer equipment to Langdale Primary School, allowing them to embrace the vast resources available through selected software. Building on their teaching, these resources offer the school a way to fully utilise their potential by delivering their curriculum in a way that was engaging for the pupils.
Along with this, the school were provided with high-tech tablets in which they could use for a digital twinning programme. This entails sharing lessons with a school in Manchester and also Spain via the tablets, offering an interactive and innovative way of learning with other students.
Defibrillators
- Community access defibrillators
With two defibrillators on site, and two within the local area, there is always one accessible in case of an emergency. Provided in 2018 by Langdale, the defibrillators were put in place to ensure the safety of not only our guests, but our staff, partners, owners and locals.
Education
- Lodge owners sponsor the Aspiring Leaders Programme
Taking an innovative approach to independent learning, the Aspiring Leaders Programme supports talented young people within Cumbria and North Lancashire. Focusing on those who don’t have a naturally strong academic background, the programme offers opportunity to those who may not be given the chance of further education otherwise.
Centralised around the community, the programme is open to those interested in volunteering or working within the community sector. After reviewing the programme, it has been shown to not only have a positive impact on the individual, but the community and the wider sector.
As supporting our local community is an aspect we value, we are proud to be a part of the programme and encourage young people to get involved as much as possible.
- Support for local further education and higher education providers to support young people’s learning
Education is important to us, and we feel like everyone should be given the opportunity to further their knowledge and skill set. This is why Langdale funds Further and Higher Education providers within the local area, so that more people within the community can have access to this opportunity.
Charitable Causes
- Wainwrights Quiz
Who doesn’t love a pub quiz? Whether you’re wanting to test your knowledge or simply get together with a few friends, our pub quiz at Wainwrights’ Inn is the perfect spot.
However, it’s not all just about fun, food and a few pints, all proceeds from our pub quiz go to admirable charities, all of which are very close to our hearts.
Supporting North West Air Ambulance, Help for Heroes, the Royal British Legion and McMillian, every donation is appreciated.
- Supporting Local Charities
Supporting our local community is a big part of our business and is so important to us. We are passionate to actively aim to support as many local causes as possible, whether that be a bake sale at our local school, or donating to a charity such as the North West Air Ambulance, each are equally important to the running and support of our community.
If you have a local cause or event coming up, please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team to see how we can contribute or help in any way.
Maintenance of Local Area
- Maintenance of local toilets
Dedicated to keeping our local area clean, tidy and as beautiful as its natural state, continuous maintenance is key. Therefore, we feel it’s important to help whenever we can.
Recently, we have taken the role of maintaining our local toilets, if we didn’t, they would be shut down, limiting the access to public toilets in the rural area. Not gaining anything in return, we want to offer support in a way that can make our community even better for those who live here, and those who come to visit.
