Notes from
Nick!
Autumn has Arrived - 26th August 2008
The August Bank holiday is over and the drive
to Langdale this morning was in typical bank holiday weather with
the Coniston Old Man shrouded in cloud.
There was less traffic than recently; the swallows
sat lined up on the telephone lines a mirror of the bank holiday
queues at airports
waiting for their departure to the sun. Today is always the start
of the end of the summer season.
But there was also the first signs of the fells
changing colour as the braken moves from the verdant greens of
summer to the reds
and golds of autumn; probably my favourite season in the lakes.
From now until late October the landscape will
not be the same on any two days, the colours constantly changing
the sun reflecting
on the fells gives a soft golden hue and there is quieter less
hurried feel to the world.
I often wonder why there aren’t more visitors
to Langdale during autumn but my selfish side encourages me to
keep it a secret,
to enable me to savour this quieter time before Christmas arrives.
Regards Nick
